The converted red barn housing our forge is situated alongside the Farmington River, against a wooded backdrop in the outer banks of the historic district of Windsor CT. It is an ideal and picturesque location for a blacksmith shop, serving as both a charming destination for clients and visitors, as well as inspiration for the work that takes place inside.
A natural dirt floor and working antique equipment give the forge an historic feel, and provide evidence of the pride we take in using authentic and traditional methods in our fabrication and hand forging processes.

It all starts at our coal-fired forge. Designed and constructed by Artist-Blacksmith Jeffrey MacClintic (who represents the "J" in "JP Designs"), it is a working replica of forges used in the nineteenth century.
Most of the tools used are period, and many are antiques themselves. While contemporary means of forging are available, we find traditional methods produce a more authentic and artistic result, (although in some cases a blend of traditional and conventional tools and methods are used to control cost and consistency.). |
